A clinical book that gives the low-down on dopamine, and charts a way to maintain the pain-pleasure balance.
Professor Anna Lembke has over two decades' experience in treating people with addiction at Stanford Hospital and researching the neurology and the socio-economic consequences of substance abuse. She was among the first professionals to flag the dangers of prescription addiction in Drug Dealer MD (2016).
Her new book, Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence, offers a mix of case studies, statistical data and simple explanations of the neuroscience. Lembke abstracts simple lessons from the case studies, so this could be considered a self-help manual for de-addiction, though it's a lot more than that.
