  • from Shaastra :: vol 03 issue 01 :: Jan - Feb 2024
Innovations in diagnostics are helping doctors choose treatment plans based on a patient’s genetic composition.

Gene therapies are ready to transform treatment; scientists are sequencing DNA cheaper, faster, and with greater precision.

Few discoveries in biology have been as impactful as the discovery of the structure of DNA. The DNA is a complex, long-chained, self-replicating molecule that holds the information for building and maintaining a living organism. It also carries this information from one generation to the next. In 1953, aided by Rosalind Franklin’s X-ray crystallography images and their own experiments, James Watson and Francis Crick figured out the double helical structure of the DNA, revealing how information is stored and passed on to the next generation using DNA.
